Durable, High-Strength Cables Designed for Zero-Fault Tolerance
When safety is paramount, many of the world’s largest OEM’s trust Cablecraft to design and manufacture a dependable safety/restraint cable to meet their critical needs.
Secure, Tether, or Limit Motion
Safety and restraint cables—often referred to as lanyards—are flexible steel cable assemblies used to secure, tether, or limit the motion of components. They’re engineered to prevent overextension, disconnection, or free fall in critical systems.
Built with swaged fittings and corrosion-resistant materials, these cables are trusted across industries for load retention, mechanical safety, and operational reliability.
Key Benefits:
- High-strength cable options in stainless steel
- Swaged fittings for consistent performance
- Custom coiled cables available to reduce slack
- Tested and verified to meet safety standards
- Designed for long life in demanding environments
Applications:
- Tailgate
- Emergency Release
- Hood Restraint
- Spare Tire Hoist
- Door/Lid Stop
- Body to Frame

Safety & Restraint Design Considerations
You can get started by using our design considerations or you can download our Safety and Restraint Design Guide (below) to help analyze, define, design and specify the most appropriate general application assembly for your specific need. The Design Guide contains useful information and technical data necessary to develop a functional and effective Safety/Restraint cable assembly. Cablecraft’s Sales and Engineering departments welcome your inquiries and can assist you with your cable design project.
- Select the desired cable construction. For example, 1×7 is the stiffes, while 7×19 is the most flexible.
- Determine the environmental effects that the cable will be exposed to. Stainless steel should be used for any critical outside applications.
- Determine what the cable and assembly breaking strength needs to be based upon the working load plus a safety factor.
- Remember that the cable assembly strength will usually be less than the tensile strength of the cable.
- Based upon items 3 and 4, determine the cable diameter to be used.
- Determine the type of end fitting that will be required for the attachment of the cable for your particular application. Our Design Engineers can help with this selection.
- Consider cable assembly tolerances.
