From our modest roots in Rockaway, New Jersey starting with only a few employees, today, Cablecraft is a market leader in the design and manufacture of high-performance, mission-critical motion control products with a strong reputation for quality and innovation. More Than 75 Years of Motion Control Experience

Cablecraft's history brings together decades of engineering, manufacturing, quality, and motion control expertise. The milestones below show how the company developed from several specialized manufacturers into a connected supplier of engineered motion control solutions.

1920 Early component manufacturing began J.J. Tourek Manufacturing Co. was founded in Chicago, manufacturing precision screw-machine components, including ball joints and pipe plugs.
1949 Cablecraft was founded Cablecraft began operations in Tacoma, Washington, manufacturing aircraft cable assemblies.
1954–1957 Ball-joint capabilities expanded Superior Ball Joint Corp. was founded in Fort Wayne, Indiana, in 1954. Tuthill acquired Cablecraft and Superior Ball Joint Corp. in 1957.
1967–1974 Additional motion control businesses formed Bristow Controls was founded in England in 1967. Cable Manufacturing and Assembly, or CMA, was founded in Rockaway, New Jersey, in 1974 to provide light-duty cable assemblies.
1975 Cable Assembler Network launched The first Cable Assembler Network location opened, expanding access to local cable assembly and distribution support.
1984–1990 Manufacturing capabilities and reach grew The businesses expanded their automotive and motion control capabilities through new manufacturing processes, acquisitions, and the growth of CMA's Bolivar, Ohio, operation.
2004–2008 Cable and linkage operations were consolidated Tuthill Controls Group combined its cable assembly and linkage businesses. CMA also strengthened its quality systems, developed additional high-temperature linkage capabilities, and expanded its international reach.
2010 Cablecraft Motion Controls was established Madison Industries acquired Tuthill Controls Group and adopted the Cablecraft Motion Controls name.
2014–2019 Quality and longevity milestones CMA celebrated 40 years in business, earned IATF 16949 certification, and Cablecraft marked 70 years of providing motion control products.
2021 Cablecraft and CMA were brought together Torque Capital Group acquired CMA. CMA subsequently acquired the assets of Glassmaster Controls and Cablecraft Motion Controls, bringing complementary mechanical motion control capabilities together.
2022 A unified Cablecraft brand was introduced CMA announced its rebrand under the Cablecraft identity, creating a more unified market presence for the combined organization.
2024 Product and market capabilities expanded Cablecraft acquired Radial Bearing and RG Rollin Co., adding specialized linkage products, rod ends, spherical bearings, and ball bearing control cable capabilities.
2025 Linkage products consolidated under Radial Bearing Cablecraft combined its linkage portfolio with Radial Bearing, creating a more focused product identity for rod ends, spherical bearings, and engineered linkage solutions.
